...a Tibetan Terrier to play with?
My goodness. Alfie had never met a mouse before, and suddenly there one was...in our living room, looking like a kids book illustration. A storybook mouse. Cute, unafraid.
I took him outside and put him in the grass:
Alfie followed me, then positioned himself beside the mouse, ready to play. He poked the mouse with a paw, then waited. Poked again gently, waited. Watched.
I came inside and went back to my computer because if this scenario ended badly, I didn't want to watch.
Eventually Alfie came in and lay down for a nap. He revealed nothing.
My friend Robie Harris once wrote a picture book called GOODBYE MOUSIE.
I thought of that title when I went out, later, and saw that the mouse was gone. Alfie is a picky eater and disdains almost everything except Purina Dog Chow or Cheddar cheese, so I don't think he ate our mouse.
I have decided that it strolled away and found its friends and lived happily ever after.
The End.
It is quite evident that Maine mice are far more appealing in every way than Kentucky mice...an illustration if ever there was one...most adorable dog and most adorable mouse! Thanks for sharing. I will definitely share this post with my 12-year old daughter who loves all living critters.

I have a hard time believing a dog that adorable could eat an equally cute mouse. I'm sure mouse and his mouse friends are eating cheese as we speak.

How lucky that you caught your mouse! My sister and I have one in our apartment and the little stinker is fast, not storybook cute and enjoys taunting us. Oh well, it is giving us a challenge for the summer.

Are you sure that is not an old Steiff or a wind-up toy? It doesn't look like any of the mice that have frequented our home. It's the bold, bulging eyes and the perfectly formed body that make me wonder.

I so much enjoy your words and pictures. If I may ask, what type of camera do you use? All your shots are fabulous!

Nothing special. A canon G-7 digital camera. (Don't tell the Canon corporation that I said "nothing special.")

I can't believe you got that close to the mouse, I would be terrified! lol

That mouse is adorable. I hope he got to go play with other cute mice friends. :)
