Beautiful.

O.Jimenez

A friend who spent two years in Africa as a member of the Peace Corps returned humbled by the experience. She always felt she did not do enough. She carried that burden with her always. A colleague who spent several months covering the plight of the Haitian people took a family under his wing, but failed in the end to help them. A family in a slum in some remote country once remarked to me “you were sent by God to help us,” A young Afghan boy carrying a tarpolin tent on his back turned to me and showed me a number written on the palm of his hand with blue felt tip and smiled nervously, he was letting me know that he was not stealing it but that his number had come up and was given the tent by the UNCHR..... Endlessly the stories come to mind, and I'm sad to say, they are hard to live with, and hard to forget. Though a moving article, to some of us it's a painful reminder of not having done enough!

Yes, I just read the article and loved it, as well, especially since my first novel for young adults was set in Kenya (NO REGRETS, Dial Books for Young Readers). I am writing my spiritual memoir and also recently finished the section on living in Kenya when I was 14 years old....AND YOU ARE A MAGNIFICENT WRITER!
